Hello Troop 147!
Tomorrow night’s meeting, Aug 27, will be focused on final planning for Shining Rock and elections.
Monday’s meeting, August 19, will continue our backpacking theme and preparation for the Shining Rock trip September 1-3.
If you have a backpacking stove such as a Whisper Lite, please bring it so we can have as many scouts practicing on the stoves as possible.
Every adult in Troop 147 needs to take the new Youth Protection Training by October 1.
This is an opportunity to get the training in a classroom setting instead of doing it online.
“The Great Smoky Mountain Council will host LIVE YPT TRAINING on Thursday, August 30 at 6:30 pm at the Council office. This will be followed by LIVE YPT FACILITATOR TRAINING (to allow you to train others in your unit) from 7:45 pm to 8:15 pm.
Additional LIVE YPT TRAINING will be offered at Grigsby Chapel LDS Church, 11837 Grigsby Chapel Rd, Knoxville, TN 37934 at 6:30 pm on Thursday September 14.

To plan for Shining Rock, we need to get a head count. We will depart Saturday, September 1 and return Monday, September 3.
Please check your email or visit the Facebook group to find the link to the Doodle Poll and let us know if you will be camping with Troop 147 or Crew 4 on Labor Day weekend.
Tonight’s meeting will be about backpacking (the August theme). We will take some time to discuss monthly themes for the coming year. We will practice the taut line hitch (see also). And we will practice setting up backpacking tarps.
Our August outing will fall on Labor Day Weekend (yes, technically that is September), to Shining Rock. Crew 4 will also be going to Shining Rock so we will likely make this a cooperative trip similar to our last trip to Cumberland Gap.
Troop 147 meets at West Hills Baptist Church on 409 N Winston Rd, Knoxville, TN 37909 (map) from 7pm to 8:30pm on Mondays. We welcome visitor who want to learn more about Scouting and how Troop 147 operates. Feel free to drop in, however, if you email scoutmaster@bsatroop147.org or committeechair@bsatroop147.org ahead of time, we can better prepare for your visit.
